MOTC Information
MOTC (Marine Operator Training Course) is a nationally recognized training program for scientific boaters, designed to ensure the safe operation of vessels during science-related research. It is backed by the Scientific Boating Safety Association (SBSA), of which Stanford University is a member. To operate our Level II or Level III boats at Stanford, you are required to have either a valid MOTC certification or a USCG 6-Pack (or higher) license.
We are currently developing Stanford’s first-ever MOTC class, which will be offered to all Stanford-affiliated individuals and run at Hopkins Marine Station. Until our course is launched, we are partnering with local institutions, such as CSUMB and Moss Landing, to secure spots for our participants on their MOTC courses.
