Megan Zhang

Science and Engineering Associate, Oceans
Hello! My name is Megan and I am a Science and Engineering Associate supporting oceans research at Hopkins Marine Station, which is Stanford University's marine research institute located in Pacific Grove. I have always had a holistic interest in designing the brains of hardware systems while also figuring out how they interface best with people and their surrounding environment. I also enjoy applying skills such as user-centered product design, rapid prototyping, systems testing, embedded programming, and technical communication to my work.

From my previous experiences, I have worked on hardware systems both independently and in teams across academic, industry, and startup settings--from developing methane detection and mitigation tools at a startup born from a Berkeley research lab, to testing thermal and mechanical reliability of CPUs in the semiconductor industry. I have also worked with a range of sensors and instrumentation, whether for more hands-on projects like autonomous vehicle navigation or more theoretical projects like researching and co-authoring a mission concept proposal through a NASA summer program. Much of my work has explored topics such as health technology, transportation systems, and sustainability, which reflects my broader interest in projects that connect biology, engineering, and planetary health. I am truly excited to learn more about and creatively tackle challenges in marine science, all while collaborating with the Stanford community along the way!
