You must complete the Stanford Hopkins Residence Housing Application to request housing.

Stanford Hopkins Residences Agreement applies to students who are assigned to and living in Stanford Hopkins Residences, although the dates of the actual contract may be different depending upon your academic program. You must be an enrolled Stanford student during each quarter of occupancy. A guaranteed quarter of housing is removed if you are an undergraduate student staying there in autumn, winter, or spring quarters; and an assignment priority year is used if you are a graduate student staying there during autumn or winter quarter.

Residence Capacity: Several Stanford academic courses and programs take place at Hopkins Marine Station year-round. Housing is assigned first to students enrolled in these offerings. Space is limited in the summer with priority going to students enrolled in OCEANS & BIOLOGY Courses, HI‑SURF & BSURP Summer Internship Programs, and AAUS Scientific Diving.

Move In and Move out Dates: Move‑in and Move‑out dates are based on official start and end dates of the course or program you are participating in. The Stanford Housing Assignments Department issues standardized housing contracts based upon course and program start/end dates. 

Move In and Move Out Dates represent the standard housing contract for your course or program. Billing covers the entire period, set by the official start and end dates, and remains unchanged even if you arrive after the scheduled move‑in or leave early. Please plan your travel accordingly.

General Information

  • Students are responsible for purchasing and/or making their own food for all meals
  • Basic kitchen supplies are provided (students may need to purchase additional items)
  • Rooms and bathrooms are shared in each unit
  • Each unit includes its own fully equipped kitchen
  • Rooms include bed, dresser and desk

In Residence Housing

Students live in four fully remodeled Victorian-style residences in New Monterey, half a mile from the Marine Station. 

Restaurants and shops are just blocks away, including Cannery Row.

While you will have to give up your current housing on campus when you spend a quarter at Hopkins. 

Students will go back into the housing draw for the following quarter.
