The VITA is Hopkins Marine Station’s first all-electric research vessel. One of the first of its kind in the region, the VITA operates as a capable and stable platform for nearshore fieldwork. The VITA serves as Hopkins Marine Station’s primary scientific diving platform and ideal for projects that require minimal acoustic disturbance, such as underwater acoustics research and sensitive marine habitat studies. Its clean energy propulsion aligns with Hopkins’ commitment to sustainability. The VITA offers researchers and students a modern, environmentally responsible way to access and study Monterey Bay.
